Northern California Coast

We had a nice substantial breakfast at our hotel and then drove up Highway 101 to Willits and then west along Highway 20 to Fort Bragg, CA on the coast.

We stopped at Jackson State Forest to hike the Chamberlain Creek Waterfall Trail but were unable to find the exact trail listed in the guidebook.

At Fort Bragg we drove through town and visited the Skunk Train Station.

It was fairly cold and windy along the coast, so David shopped at a thrift store and bought a nice warm sweater.

From Fort Bragg, we traveled north along Highway 1.

Here are some photos taken along the rugged coast.

We stopped along the coast for another hike at MacKerricher State Park, but the hiking trail around Lake Cleone had an elevated wooden walkway which was not well maintained, so we hiked only a short distance and returned to the car.

Highway 1 eventually merges into Highway 101 at Leggett. We drove on to Garberville in the late afternoon and had lunch at Calico's Deli & Pasta.

After lunch we drove further north along Highway 101 to Humboldt Redwoods State Park.

Here is David standing next to a segment of a large redwood tree outside the Visitor Center.

We drove back along Highway 101 through Laytonville and Willits to our hotel in Ukiah.

This photo is representative of some of the beautiful scenery we saw along the way.

We shopped at Safeway in Willits and bought food for dinner. It was a long day of driving, so we had dinner in the hotel room and watched the Giants game on TV.
