PHOENIX TO SURPRISE, AZ
Today I'm in Surprise, AZ, a city about 40 miles northwest of Phoenix, and spring training home ballpark of the Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals.
I arrived about 2 hours before game time to explore the ballpark and to get a good a seat.
The A's players signed autographs before the game.
I had a great seat behind home plate.
The A's had 14 hits and 11 runs and several players stood out.
Jemile Weeks, the lead-off batter, hit a home run, a single, and another home run his first 3 times at bat.
Cliff Pennington hit a couple of doubles and singles and reached base his first 5 times at bat.
The new guy from Cuba, Yoenis Cepedes, hit a single.
The best was Derek Norris, who hit a grand slam in the top of the 9th inning, to put the A's ahead for good.
Here are some more views of this fabulous ballpark.
And they even have a carosel for the kids.
It was a perfect day for a ballgame, the A's won 11-7, I fell in love with the ballpark, and life is good.
Note to self: Attend more A's games this season!

Tonight I ate at a popular sports bar in downtown Phoenix owned by Alice Cooper called
Cooper'stown
"Where Jocks and Rock Meet"
I drank too much beer watching March Madness on multiple screens. Ohio State won! Go Buckeyes.

Did Stephen Lumpkins pitch for the Royals? He's a Redwood City boy and his brother is a friend and classmate of Andrew's.
