DALLAS

I had a nice breakfast in the hotel before beginning my walking tour of Dallas.

This 5K AVA Downtown Walk, hosted by the Dallas Trekkers, begins and ends at Union Station.

Old Red Courthouse - Built 1892

Kennedy Memorial (1970)
This memorial is called a cenotaph, an empty tomb. Architect Philip Johnson said its emptiness represents the void left by the death here of President Johnn F. Kennedy and is intended to inspire a moment of reflection.

These two structures stand in stark constrast.

This was formerly a Warehouse District but now has many shops and restaurants.

American Airlines Center - Home of the Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks

Luxury Apartments with nice view of Downtown Dallas

Dallas Museum of Art

Henry Moore tiled work "Genesis" behind the Dallas Museum of Art.

Stone Place with sidewalk cafes.

Dallas County Administration Building
In 1963, this building was the School Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald shot President Kennedy. There is a Sixth Floor Museum in the building with a view from where Oswald fired the shots.

Dealey Plaza

This is the location of the assasination of John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. It was named a National Historic Landmark in 1993. The Grassy Knoll of Dealey Plaza is a small, sloping hill inside the plaza that became famous following the JFK assasination. The knoll was above Presesident Kennedy and to his right (west and north) during the assasination.

It also is the Birthplace of Dallas where the first home was built.

Tonight I dined at the Founders Grill in the lobby of the hotel. I had a wonderful Southwestern grilled chicken sandwich with bacon, lettace, avocado, onion, tomato, salsa, and jalopenas, a great combination of flavors, with cole slaw and beer.

Then I watched Ohio State beat Syracuse during March Madness.

Later I had the traditional hotel "nightcap," freshly baked cookies and a glass of milk.

  1. Must be a bit eery to see these places in person.

  2. Yes, it really is eery. My hotel is about 2 blocks from the scene and each time I leave the hotel I have a strange feeling.
